Reaching Out to Communities Across South Africa

Granny's Garden Tour 2026 Community Outreach

The Dr. KeDiBone Mokwena Foundation has declared 2026 a year of reaching out to communities throughout South Africa.

In the first week of June 2026, Granny's Garden Tour travelled to the Free State to engage Grade 5 learners in a practical gardening workshop. Children had the opportunity to get their hands dirty as they learned the importance of good soil, healthy soil practices, and caring for the earth.

This is more than a workshop. It is a living classroom where children learn resilience, responsibility, gratitude, and the value of nurturing life from the soil up. When a child holds soil in their hands and understands that it is alive, they begin to understand that they too are part of something larger, something worth protecting and nurturing.

The Grade 5 learners who participated in this workshop are now equipped with practical skills they can take home to their families and communities. They learned about composting, water conservation, seed saving, and the joy of watching something grow from a tiny seed into food that feeds a family.

This outreach is just the beginning. Throughout 2026, the Foundation will continue travelling to communities across South Africa, bringing Granny's Garden Tour to schools, Early Learning Centres, and community groups.

Together Shaping Humanity.
